Entry to Hungary
• Australian nationals can enter the country visa-free for up to 90 days in a 180-day period.

• Passports are required when crossing borders within the Schengen area.

• Travellers may be denied entry if any fines issued in Hungary have not been paid.

• Conditions of entry may change abruptly. Travellers are advised to contact the nearest embassy or consulate of Hungary for more details.

Staying in Hungary
• All COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. The use of FFP2 face masks may be mandatory in certain settings.

• Travellers should adhere to local guidance regarding COVID-19 measures.

Departure from Hungary
• Passports are required when crossing borders within the Schengen area.

• Conditions of departure may change abruptly. Travellers are advised to contact the nearest embassy or consulate of Hungary for more details.

Important note Hungary Tourist Visa Exemption

Croatia passport holders are visa exempted to enter Hungary under the Schengen visa scheme. You can stay up to 90 days within a period of 180 days (6 months), after which you will need to leave the Schengen country you are in. You will be eligible to enter the Schengen area again once you have spent more then 6 months out of these countries. Both the entrance and the exit can be done from different Schengen countries.

Croatia passport holders are visa exempted for up to 90 days provided the traveller:

  • hold a valid passport with a validity of at least 6 months with minimum 2 blank visa pages
  • have sufficient funds for the trip
  • have proof of onward/return flights
  • have all necessary documents for the purpose of entry

Need a visa to stay beyond the exempted period ?

The Embassy of Hungary requires that the applicant submit their visa application directly if the applicant wishes to stay beyond the exempted period.
